This programme is for the following year groups: Years 4–6, Years 7–8
Journey into the realm of Tāne and encounter Te Ao Māori in our most exciting classroom, te ngahere, the native forest. Learn how Tāne created this world and how Māori use its resources to sustain life and flourish. Take part in hands-on activities with taonga and artefacts.
Many purakau (stories) associated with the forest, including the creation story and the kauri and the whale, illuminate tikanga Māori (customary concepts).
This programme is partially delivered in the native bush near the Museum. Teachers are advised that we will endeavour to teach rain, hail, or shine, and that students should come with appropriate clothing for the weather.
