It’s so hard to choose just one! But right now it must be the Moa in the Origins Gallery. Seeing a creature that is no longer with us but is such an integral part of the story of Aotearoa New Zealand makes me think about the different connections we all have to this land and our obligation to protect and preserve the taonga species that are still with us.
Favourite Part of the Museum
My favourite gallery in the museum is definitely the Arts of Asia, especially the Yuan Dynasty ceramics. Seeing how different styles and techniques of ceramic design eventually coalesced and merged to form styles that are now so recognizable and iconic has always interested me. The extensive stories these pieces carry with them of the peoples and cultures that made them is truly awe inspiring.
