This programme is for the following year groups Years 4-6, 7-8, 9-10, 11-13

Ideal as an introductory overview, this session traces the Māori story from early settlement through to today. Learners explore key turning points —migration, trade, colonisation, conflict, and cultural revival — and connect them into one powerful narrative. Through taonga, imagery, and interactive storytelling, students gain a sense of continuity, resilience, and pride. Teachers can choose this session as a stand-alone or as a prelude to the full Ngā Hītori o Aotearoa series.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Develop a broad understanding of Māori history
  • Identify major eras of change
  • Appreciate the ongoing journey of Māori identity and resurgence
