This programme is for the following year groups Years 1–3, 4-6, 7-8, 9-10
Learners explore Māori creation stories to understand relationships between people, atua, and whenua, before examining the arrival of people to Aotearoa. Through storytelling, images, and hands-on activities, students investigate how Māori established kāinga and pā, using environmental knowledge and early technologies to live, protect, and sustain their communities.

- Understand Māori creation stories as explanations of the natural world and relationships.
- Explain how early Māori adapted to Aotearoa through settlement and pā.
- Identify how environment and technology shaped early Māori communities.
