Through storytelling, images, and hands-on activities, students investigate how Māori established kāinga and pā, using environmental knowledge and early technologies to live, protect, and sustain their communities.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Understand Māori creation stories as explanations of the natural world and relationships.
  • Explain how early Māori adapted to Aotearoa through settlement and pā.
  • Identify how environment and technology shaped early Māori communities.
