This programme is for the following year groups Years 7-8, 9-10, 11-13

This programme examines the social and economic impacts of raupatu and land confiscations after the wars. Students explore how Māori navigated loss, urban migration, and changing relationships with land and identity. Through taonga and primary sources, learners uncover stories of adaptation and the beginnings of urban Māori communities. Senior students connect these histories to movements for restitution and redress in the 20th century.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Describe the effects of land loss
  • Recognise the resilience of Māori communities
  • Link historical injustices to contemporary urban Māori experiences
